The #1 Reason Why Personal Branding Is Powerful!


We all want to generate more leads in our business because we understand that the money is in the list -and we all want to achieve the trust from the people on our list (business database). So how do you achieve this? What is the one easy, effective way to gain trust that is also going to be kind to your pocket? Let me tell you my story.

I have owned my own marketing company, (19 years already) as well as an IT company for 7 years during this same time. It was difficult to run both companies but I believe in ‘working smart’ not hard. So today I am going to share one of my secrets with you.

The #1 success secret in most businesses (as we should all know) is communication. If you have a good communication strategy then you are always on top of mind and your clients or customers will feel that you care about them and that they are getting value from you. This is what keeps them on your database.

To succeed in this successfully you have to keep the communications process on going, which is difficult in itself, this being the main reason why most corporate company DO NOT have a communications strategy in place.

The growth of your relationship with your customers depends on what value they receive from you and how often they receive this. Too little is bad and too much is also bad – it has to be consistent but not to the point where they feel like they are being stalked. Once you get this happy medium and you add the secret ingredient that I am going to share with you to this – the results will be evident. Now we all know, to keep communications on going and consistent means that you have to sit in front of your computer every day and communicate. Well this was not what I saw myself doing day after day. So how was I going to achieve this in a different way?

Well it’s easy. I decided that I was going to automate my business communications strategy. Like most businesses, we all do email marketing. My plan was to automate this process. And so I bought into a platform which allowed me to automate a series of emails following each other, separated by a certain amount of time e.g a day or two. The amazing thing is that I didn’t have to sit in front of my computer. In fact I could be lying on the beach (which I did do a few times).

How did I automate my emails? Well this is a definite topic for later so hang in there.

Once I had automated my email marketing I found that although my processes were much easier – people still didn’t connect to me on a personal bases. After all they were just receiving a series of emails from me, like the hundreds that they were already receiving from everyone else every day.

This is when I decided that I had to put some of the “me” factor into my emails to make my customers feel that I was there with them, they could actually see me when they read my email (a bit of psychology marketing). And this is called personal branding. And all I did was add my photograph to all of my emails going out as well as my replies.

People have asked me over the years why I have my photograph on my emails. My answer to them is simply ‘so that people can see who I am’.

Why would you want people to see who you are and how would this help you? With the system that I use, my emails are more personalize. I address each email personally by my customers first name, and I have my photo on the email so they can connect to me without me even being in the room. In most cases I never even met them.

Often I would bump into one of my customers in the street and he would stop me and say ‘Hi Ann’! My returned blank look got him to tell me who he was and then I realized that I had been speaking to this person via email for months, most times he was buying from me but I never got to meet him face to face. This was the result of including my photograph in my emails. They all knew me, even though I had never met the majority of them. This was the power result of personal branding.
